- Be very wary of chatrooms. Some people who use them
are just what they make out that they are. Some are not. Be extremely
cautious about giving any of your personal details.
- If you see something advertised which seems too good to
be true, it probably is! Can you find the seller if things go wrong?
Are a telephone number and address given? Do they
really exist? What country is the seller in? If he's operating from an
internet cafe in one of the more obscure parts of the world, you are
strongly advised against doing business with him.
- It is usually inadvisable to make any payments over the internet directly to individuals,
unless you know them personally. Using an intermediary, such as Paypal, has some built-in safeguards.
- Never email credit card details, and never enter
them into a website that is not using encrypted transmissions.
